Robert L. Karp, MD, FACS
Dr. Karp graduated from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1970. He received his undergraduate degree with honors, in chemistry, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1966. He was valedictorian of Northwestern High School. He performed a surgery internship and residency at Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital/UCLA from 1970 to 1975. He then served in the United States Army Medical Clinic from 1972 to 1975. He performed a urology residency at the University of Alabama from 1975 to 1978. He has been in private practice in Brandon, Sun City Center and Tampa since 1978.

Dr. Karp became board certified in urology in 1980. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1982. He is on the clinical faculty of the University of South Florida as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is a member of the American Urological Association, both the National and the Southeastern Section, the Florida Urological Association, the American Medical Association and the Hillsborough County Medical Association. Dr. Karp was a founding member of the Bay Area Renal Stone Center and the Brandon Surgery Center.

James E. Alver, MD, FACS
Dr. Alver graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1985. He was salutatorian of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1975. In 1979, he received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He received his training in general surgery and urology at the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York from 1985 to 1991, and has been in private practice in Brandon and Sun City Center since then.

Dr. Alver became board certified in urology in 1993 and is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2000. Dr. Alver has been very active in urologic research and has published many scientific papers. He has presented his work at many national and local meetings. His is a member of the American Urological Association, both the National and the Southeastern Section, the American Society of Clinical Urologists, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Hillsborough County Medical Association.

Angelo S. Paola, MD, FACS
Dr. Paola graduated from SUNY/Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1986. He received his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from Stoney Brook as well. He was trained in general surgery and urology at West Virginia University from 1987 to 1993. He practiced general surgery at the Bond Clinic in Winter Haven, Florida from June 1993 to September 1998, until he decided to move his family to Brandon in 1998. He now practices with Dr. Karp and Dr. Alver in Brandon and Sun City.

Dr. Paola became board certified in urology in 1995 and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is on the clinical facility of West Virginia University, and is the author of "Under the Fig Leaf," a comprehensive guide to the care and maintenance of the penis, prostate, and related organs.

Mark B. Baker, MD, FACS
Dr. Baker graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2000 and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. In 1996, He received his bachelor of arts from Hendrix College (Conway, Arkansas) and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in history and minor in chemistry. From 2000 to 2005, he finished a general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of South Florida, which included training at Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley VA, Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital, and Moffitt Cancer Center. He has been in private practice in Brandon and Sun City Center since August of 2005. He currently has operative privileges at Brandon Regional Hospital, Southbay Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, and Town & Country Hospital.

Dr. Baker became board certified in urology in 2007. He is a member of the American Urological Association, Southeastern Section of the AUA, and the American Society for Clinical Urologists. Besides caring for all aspects of general urology, Dr. Baker's clinical interests include female urology and voiding dysfunction, minimally invasive therapies for benign prostatic hypertrophy, and laparoscopic surgery, including robotic prostatectomy.
